Etsy Break-Even Calculator
Find the exact price where your costs and Etsy's fees are fully covered — or, if you already know your price, find out how many units you need to sell to recover a fixed cost like an ad campaign.
Estimated based on the assumptions you entered. Your actual fees may vary based on your Etsy account, country, payment setup, advertising participation, and transaction details.
How this calculation works
Break-Even Price solves the same formula as the Profit Calculator's "Find My Price" mode, with the target profit set to exactly $0 — the price at which your costs and Etsy's fees are covered and nothing more.
Break-Even Units takes a price you're already considering, calculates your estimated profit per unit at that price, and divides a fixed cost you want to recover (like an ad campaign or a batch of packaging supplies) by that per-unit profit — rounded up, since you can't sell a fraction of a unit.
Fee assumptions
- $0.20 listing fee, charged per unit sold
- 6.5% transaction fee on your item price + shipping charged
- 3% + $0.25 payment processing fee (US Etsy Payments account)
- Optional: 15% Offsite Ads fee (12% for shops with $10,000+ in trailing-12-month sales), capped at $100 per order, only if you mark a sale as ad-attributed
This profile assumes a US-based Etsy Payments account and does not include Etsy Ads budget, Etsy Plus subscription, currency conversion, sales tax, or refunds.
Example calculation
Break-even price: $8 in materials, $5 shipping charged, $6 actual shipping cost, $0.50 packaging.
| Break-even selling price | $11.52 |
| Revenue at that price (item + shipping charged) | $16.52 |
| Total estimated fees | –$2.02 |
| Total costs | –$14.50 |
| Estimated net profit | $0.00 |
Break-even units: same costs, selling at $25, with a $150 ad campaign to recover.
| Estimated profit per unit at $25 | $12.20 |
| Fixed cost to recover | $150.00 |
| Units needed | 13 units |
Tips for interpreting your result
- Your break-even price isn't a price to actually charge — it's the floor. Price below it and every sale loses money before you even count your time.
- Break-Even Units always rounds up to a whole number, since a fixed cost isn't "recovered" until the last full unit that pushes cumulative profit past it.
- If Break-Even Units tells you the price you entered results in a loss per unit, no sales volume fixes that — the price itself needs to go up, or costs need to come down.
