Etsy POD Profit Calculator
Built for print-on-demand sellers: enter what your POD provider charges you to produce and ship the item, and see what's actually left over after Etsy's fees.
Estimated based on the assumptions you entered. Your actual fees may vary based on your Etsy account, country, payment setup, advertising participation, and transaction details.
How this calculation works
Same profit calculation as the flagship Profit Calculator — this page just relabels two fields the way POD sellers actually think about them: "POD base cost" is what your provider charges to produce the item, and "POD shipping fee" is what your provider bills you to ship it, kept separate from what you charge the buyer. Packaging is left out — your POD provider packs and ships it, not you.
Fee assumptions
- $0.20 listing fee, charged per unit sold
- 6.5% transaction fee on your item price + shipping charged
- 3% + $0.25 payment processing fee (US Etsy Payments account)
- Optional: 15% Offsite Ads fee (12% for shops with $10,000+ in trailing-12-month sales), capped at $100 per order, only if you mark a sale as ad-attributed
This profile assumes a US-based Etsy Payments account and does not include Etsy Ads budget, Etsy Plus subscription, currency conversion, sales tax, or refunds. It also does not include your POD provider's own subscription or membership tier fees, if any — factor those into "Other costs" if applicable.
Example calculation
Item priced at $24.99 with $4.99 shipping charged. POD base cost $12.75, POD shipping fee $4.50.
| Revenue (item + shipping charged) | $29.98 |
| Total estimated fees | –$3.30 |
| POD base cost | –$12.75 |
| POD shipping fee | –$4.50 |
| Estimated net profit | $9.43 |
| Profit margin | ~31.5% |
Tips for interpreting your result
- Your POD provider's base cost usually already bundles printing and the blank item — check whether their published price includes fulfillment or if that's billed separately as a shipping fee, and split the two fields accordingly.
- POD margins tend to run lower than handmade items since the provider takes a chunk of the price for production and fulfillment — that's the trade-off for not holding inventory or packing orders yourself.
- If your POD provider charges a monthly subscription for lower per-item rates, amortize a per-sale share of it into "Other costs" to see your true margin.
