Etsy ROI Calculator
See your return relative to what you actually spent out of pocket — not just your margin on the sale — or work backward from a target ROI to the price you need.
Estimated based on the assumptions you entered. Your actual fees may vary based on your Etsy account, country, payment setup, advertising participation, and transaction details.
How this calculation works
ROI here is estimated net profit ÷ total out-of-pocket costs — where costs mean what you actually spent to make and ship the item (product, shipping, packaging, labor, other), not Etsy's marketplace or payment fees. Fees come out of the sale itself rather than being paid upfront as an investment, so they're excluded from the ROI denominator on purpose.
"Find Price for Target ROI" works backward from a target ROI percentage: since your costs don't change with price, it converts your target ROI into a target dollar profit, then solves for the price that hits it — the exact same algebra the Pricing Calculator uses for a target-profit goal.
Fee assumptions
- $0.20 listing fee, charged per unit sold
- 6.5% transaction fee on your item price + shipping charged
- 3% + $0.25 payment processing fee (US Etsy Payments account)
- Optional: 15% Offsite Ads fee (12% for shops with $10,000+ in trailing-12-month sales), capped at $100 per order, only if you mark a sale as ad-attributed
This profile assumes a US-based Etsy Payments account and does not include Etsy Ads budget, Etsy Plus subscription, currency conversion, sales tax, or refunds. Fees are excluded from the ROI denominator by definition — see "How this calculation works" above.
Example calculation
Calculate ROI: item sells for $35, with $5 shipping charged. Costs: $10 product, $5 actual shipping, $1 packaging.
| Revenue (item + shipping charged) | $40.00 |
| Total estimated fees | –$4.25 |
| Total out-of-pocket costs | –$16.00 |
| Estimated net profit | $19.75 |
| ROI ($19.75 ÷ $16.00 in costs) | ~123.4% |
Find Price for Target ROI: same costs, targeting a 50% ROI.
| Target profit (50% × $16.00 in costs) | $8.00 |
| Required selling price | $22.02 |
Tips for interpreting your result
- ROI and profit margin answer different questions: margin compares profit to revenue (what the sale brought in); ROI compares profit to what you actually spent to fulfill it. On a low-cost, high-price item, ROI is often much higher than margin.
- ROI is undefined — not zero — when your out-of-pocket costs are $0. There's nothing to divide the return by.
- A high ROI on a very low-cost item can still mean a small dollar profit. Check the "Estimated net profit" figure alongside the ROI percentage, not instead of it.
