How Much Does Etsy Take From a Sale?
On a typical US sale, Etsy takes about 10–11% of the order total plus $0.45 in flat fees — $1.40 on a $10 sale, $9.95 on a $100 sale. Smaller orders pay more in percentage terms, and an Offsite Ads attribution can push the total past 25%.
There is no single “Etsy takes X%” number, because Etsy doesn’t charge one fee — it charges three stackable ones. The useful question isn’t “what’s the rate?” but “how many dollars does Etsy keep from my sale?” This guide answers that with exact numbers at five common price points, all computed from Etsy’s published rates and verified with Sellarithm’s fee calculator.
Rates below reflect Etsy’s published fee information for a US-based Etsy Payments seller as of the date shown, based on Etsy’s own fee overview and help documentation. Etsy can change these rates at any time — always confirm current numbers directly on Etsy before relying on them. Last verified: October 15, 2026.
Etsy fees by price point
The table shows what Etsy keeps from a sale at five common item prices. The assumptions: a US-based Etsy Payments account, item price only (no shipping charged to the buyer), no discount, no Offsite Ads attribution, and one $0.20 listing fee counted per sale.
| Sale price | Listing fee | Transaction fee (6.5%) | Processing (3% + $0.25) | Total Etsy fees | Effective rate |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| $5.00 | $0.20 | $0.33 | $0.40 | $0.93 | 18.50% |
| $10.00 | $0.20 | $0.65 | $0.55 | $1.40 | 14.00% |
| $20.00 | $0.20 | $1.30 | $0.85 | $2.35 | 11.75% |
| $50.00 | $0.20 | $3.25 | $1.75 | $5.20 | 10.40% |
| $100.00 | $0.20 | $6.50 | $3.25 | $9.95 | 9.95% |
Every row was computed with Sellarithm’s fee engine from the rates above — the same engine that powers the Fee Calculator.
The three fees behind the number
$0.20 listing fee
A flat $0.20 charged when a listing is published, and again for each unit sold — each sale triggers its own renewal fee. It’s the only Etsy fee that doesn’t scale with your price.
6.5% transaction fee
Charged on the total the buyer pays for the order: your item price plus whatever shipping you charge them, plus any gift wrap or personalization add-ons. It’s the fee most sellers underestimate, because it’s easy to forget shipping is part of the base.
3% + $0.25 payment processing
For a US-based Etsy Payments account, charged on the full order total. This is also the fee that varies most by country, so sellers outside the US should confirm their own rate.
The point most sellers miss: the two percentage fees add to 9.5% at every price, and the flat $0.45 ($0.20 + $0.25) sits on top — before anything optional.
Worked examples: the $10, $20 and $100 sale
A $10 sale
Listing $0.20, transaction 6.5% × $10.00 = $0.65, processing 3% × $10.00 + $0.25 = $0.55. Total: $1.40 (14.0%). Etsy keeps $1.40 of every $10 — you see $8.60 before your own product and shipping costs.
A $20 sale
Listing $0.20, transaction $1.30, processing $0.85. Total: $2.35 (11.75%). You see $17.65 before your costs.
A $100 sale
Listing $0.20, transaction $6.50, processing $3.25. Total: $9.95 (9.95%). You see $90.05 before your costs.
A $100 sale attributed to Offsite Ads
The same $9.95, plus the 15% Offsite Ads fee on the order total = $15.00. Total: $24.95 (24.95%). For shops past the $10,000 threshold the ad rate drops to 12%, which would make this $21.95 instead. The Offsite Ads Calculator shows this for your own order value.
Why the percentage shrinks as the price grows
The two percentage fees total 9.5% at any price. What changes is the flat $0.45: on a $5 sale it adds roughly 9 percentage points on top; on a $100 sale it adds 0.45 points. That’s the whole reason cheap items feel so heavily taxed — and why a single fixed “Etsy takes X%” claim is misleading. The Fee Calculator shows your effective fee rate for your actual price instead of a one-size-fits-all percentage.
What these numbers don’t include
The table models a clean US sale with no shipping charged. Real sales can also involve:
- Shipping you charge the buyer — the 6.5% and 3% fees also apply to that amount, so charging $5 shipping grows both percentage fees. See the exact effect with the Shipping Profit Calculator.
- Offsite Ads fees — only on ad-attributed sales: 15%, or 12% for shops past $10,000 in a consecutive 365-day period, capped at $100 per order.
- Currency conversion — 2.5% when your listing currency differs from your payout currency.
- Regulatory operating fees — charged to sellers in certain non-US markets only; US sellers pay 0%.
- Everything that isn’t an Etsy fee — Etsy Ads (your own ad budget), Etsy Plus, refunds, sales tax and VAT, plus your product, packaging, labor and shipping costs. None of those are Etsy fees, but all of them reduce what you keep.

Why your payout can differ from these estimates
Etsy withholds its fees from your payout, but two other things shrink the deposit that actually lands: your own costs (the shipping label you buy, materials, packaging) aren’t Etsy fees, yet they leave your account — and any of the unmodeled charges above can apply. If your payout looks smaller than revenue minus the fee table, the Profit Calculator helps separate Etsy’s cut from your cost of selling.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Etsy take from a $10 sale?
About $1.40 — the $0.20 listing fee, $0.65 transaction fee (6.5%) and $0.55 processing fee (3% + $0.25). That’s 14.0% of the sale, before any shipping charged, discounts or Offsite Ads.
How much does Etsy take from a $20 sale?
About $2.35 — $0.20 + $1.30 + $0.85, or 11.75% of the sale.
What percentage does Etsy take from a sale?
Roughly 10–11% of the order total for a typical US sale without Offsite Ads, once the price is high enough for the flat fees to fade. Cheap items run higher (18.5% at $5); an Offsite Ads attribution can take the total past 25%.
Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?
Yes. Both the 6.5% transaction fee and the 3% processing fee are calculated on the full amount the buyer pays, including whatever you charge for shipping.
Do digital products pay the same Etsy fees?
The same fee structure applies — listing, transaction and processing — just without a shipping component. Low-priced downloads feel the flat fees most. Run the numbers in the Digital Product Profit calculator.
Is there a minimum Etsy fee per sale?
Effectively yes: every sale carries at least $0.45 in flat fees ($0.20 listing + $0.25 processing component) plus 9.5% of the order total. That’s why tiny orders carry the highest effective rates.
